Ubuntu 24.04 ships rsync 3.2.7 (October 2022). This build is rsync 3.4.2dev from upstream master, which includes:

6 critical security fixes (CVE-2024-12084 through CVE-2024-12747) — heap overflow, info leak defeating ASLR, arbitrary file read/write, symlink race condition, and --safe-links bypass
Protocol version 32 — clients and servers can detect unpatched 3.2.x peers
rrsync -no-overwrite — prevents modification of existing files in restricted rsync directories
Bundled popt 1.19 — fixes for modern GCC, alloca() dependency removed
